She sacrificed everything for their future: decades later, they took her to a place she never dreamed of.

 

Her hair turned completely white. Her steps slowed. But hope never abandoned her.
THE RETURN
One ordinary morning, while she was sweeping the entrance to her small house, modest but now hers again after years of saving, someone knocked.
He thought it was a neighbor.
When she opened the door, her breath caught in her throat.
Two tall men stood before her, their uniforms neat and their insignia gleaming in the sunlight.
“But…” one of them said in a shaking voice.
Mark.
And next to him, Paolo.
Both wear the Aeroméxico uniform.
They are both holding flowers in their hands.
Teresa covered her mouth with her shaking hands.
“Is it really you?”
They hugged her as if time had folded back on itself.
The neighbors began to peek outside when they heard the crying.
“We’re home, Mom,” said Paolo.
And this time it wasn't a promise.
THE FLIGHT
The next morning they took her to Benito Juárez International Airport.
Teresa walked slowly, her eyes wide open, taking it all in.
“Am I really taking a plane?” he asked nervously.
“You're not just a beginner,” Marco said. “You're our guest of honor.”
Once everyone was seated, Marco's voice filled the cabin through the intercom.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we have a very special person on board today. The woman who sold everything so her children could study aviation. Our mother.”
Silence fell on the plane.
Paul continued in an uncertain voice.
